Put an End to the Cruelty of WhalingOur planet’s great whales are battling for their lives. Whales face more threats today than at any other time in history. Commercial whaling has been banned for more than two decades – yet Japan, Iceland and Norway continue firing harpoons into these gentle creatures for products that nobody needs. More than 30,000 whales have been killed for commercial purposes since the ban on whaling in 1986. Thanks to public and diplomatic pressure from IFAW, the public, and other organisations and governments, the Government of Japan has suspended plans to kill 50 humpback whales over the next several months. However, it will still kill 935 minke and 50 endangered fins, a terrible and unnecessary loss of life.
